GM Dictionary: Chemistry #21

Okay, I’ll even admit this one was a bit of a stretch in its usefulness at the table. And honestly, even if you are playing an alchemist of some kind, I would never expect or ask anyone to use the right words for this stuff as they were roleplaying a short scene. However, a lot of these are the common and underlying words constantly getting thrown around in a chemistry lab / class. I had flashbacks to my undergrad program prepping these and I did my best. Still, many are under explained or oversimplified. HOWEVER, I am hoping you at least get a nice slew of words for some alchemy based fantasy technobabble.



Oxidation: When chemical reactions have a chemical losing electrons it is known as oxidation. This happens in concert with reductions as if one is gaining there is always one losing as well. Supposedly named for oxygen’s readiness for this type of reaction and, thus, being the first recognized as such.
