GM Dictionary: Chemistry #19
Okay, I’ll even admit this one was a bit of a stretch in its usefulness at the table. And honestly, even if you are playing an alchemist of some kind, I would never expect or ask anyone to use the right words for this stuff as they were roleplaying a short scene. However, a lot of these are the common and underlying words constantly getting thrown around in a chemistry lab / class. I had flashbacks to my undergrad program prepping these and I did my best. Still, many are under explained or oversimplified. HOWEVER, I am hoping you at least get a nice slew of words for some alchemy based fantasy technobabble.
Acid: Bases are the opposite of acids and donate negative hydroxide ions when in a solution. When mixed with an acid the result is a neutralization reaction and often produces water (hydroxide ions are just water missing a positive hydrogen!).
This is a mini-article series featuring short explanations for words more commonly used in RPGs (or potentially so!) than normal conversation. Each month will hold a different theme and each weekday will have a different word. Note: these are personal, simple breakdowns and not perfect.
