GM Dictionary: Governments #21

Designing my homebrew worlds has made me realized I don’t have a great vocabulary for governments / political bodies. Sure I know plenty of words, but I wouldn’t say I could define them all properly. So, for April I am sharing government-related words. Many you will recognize and some you might not. Remember that these are complex topics and this series, perhaps more than any other, is one where there is plenty more to look into and my brevity might cross the line into an oversimplification. Still, I hope it is a good baseline!
Also known as a military dictatorship, this differs in that it often sees itself as neutral arbiters saving a nation from supposedly corrupt governing. Generally forming after a coup, a leader is selected and the military force becomes the leadership, maintaining power and justifying themselves based on ideologies they say are dangerous.
This is a mini-article series featuring short explanations for words more commonly used in RPGs (or potentially so!) than normal conversation. Each month will hold a different theme and each weekday will have a different word. Note: these are personal, simple breakdowns and not perfect. Please tell me if I am mistaken and I will work to correct it! For anyone looking for a collected work please check out our Patreon. All patrons get a PDF collected copy each month!
